這支 The End of the World 在1962年底發行，
是 Skeeter Davis 最有名的一首歌，
到1963年3月就竄升到流行歌曲排行榜第二名。
在鄉村歌曲排行榜也是第二名，
在輕音樂（easy listening）排行榜第一名，
甚至在白人很少上榜的藍調排行榜也排了第四名，
同上四榜前十名，算是美國流行音樂中一個小小的奇跡。

原作詞者寫此曲的動機是因爲父親的過世

而覺得生命中頓失棟樑的緣故。

這支歌曲形容失去心上人的心情如同世界末日，很是真確。
歌的本身的確很耐聼。
作詞者是Sylvia Dee ，
納京高的名曲“ Too Young” 也出自她手中。
