這首歌由Jimmy Webb在 1965年寫成，
並由Johnny Rivers灌唱。
Glen Campbell 偶然在收音機裡聽到，
即刻打電話給他的經紀人，說他要灌唱這首歌。
Glen Campbell 的版本在1967年出片，
風行一時，在排行榜上爬到第三名。

歌詞敘述一位男人在斷然離開女友的時候，
留給她的一張字條，然後臆想她可能的反應。
他從洛杉磯出發，一路朝東走。
他想像著，開到鳳凰城的時候
女友應該正好起床，
她看到了字條，卻不會相信他真的走了，
因為他從前也威脅過好幾次。
開到新墨西哥州的時候
她應該已經上班，也許會抽空給他打個電話等等。

是一首令人悵然的歌。
