低語的松林



念初中的時候，正熱衷於古典音樂，
但是朋友和同學當中喜歡西洋流行歌曲的大有人在，
因此對好聽的西洋歌曲也沒有錯過太多。
以前在台灣聼英文歌曲，只要好聽的，
才不管是熱門歌，搖滾樂，或是鄉村歌曲。
就是這樣喜歡上強尼哈頓 （Johnny Horton）的歌。


強尼哈頓生于1925年，他最擅長演唱民謠說歷史的歌，
例如“The Battle of New Orleans”唱英國攻打紐奧良的故事，
“Sink the Bismarck”唱德國的俾斯麥戰艦被擊沉的故事，
和“North to Alaska”（北國尋金記）。
但是我偏好他的抒情鄉村歌曲，
例如“All For the Love of a Girl”和“Whispering Pines”。
這首低語的松林（Whispering Pines）是
在1959年鄉村歌曲排行第一名的
“When It's Springtime in Alaska (It's Forty Below)”的反面。


1960年，才35嵗的強尼哈頓正在事業高峰，
卻在一場演奏會後回家的路上，被酒後駕車的醉鬼撞車身亡，
結束他短而多姿的生命。
