這首"Top Of The World"是木匠兄妹
繼"(They Long to Be) Close to You"之後，
第二支在排行榜奪冠歌曲，
由哥哥Richard Carpenter和John Bettis所作，
是1973年全年度排行榜流行歌曲的第一名。

木匠兄妹（Carpenters）的哥哥Richard和妹妹Karen，
都出生在美國新格蘭康州的New Haven（耶魯大學所在地），
哥哥出生在1946年，妹妹則是1950 年。
1963年木匠兄妹全家遷居至洛杉磯。
1964年Richard進入加州州立大學長提分校，
彈鋼琴的Richard在那裡認識了John Bettis，
以及後來樂團的幾位主要人物。
這年Karen進入Downey高中就讀，愛上了打擊樂器。
1966年兄妹兩人以及友人Wes Jacobs組成The Richard Carpenter Trio，
在當年的好萊塢的音樂比賽中脫穎而出。
同年妹妹被唱片公司挖掘，灌錄了單張唱片，
雖然沒有走紅，但是兄妹的音樂生涯已經開始。

1969年A&M唱片公司與兄妹簽約，
木匠兄妹（Carpenters）正式成軍，
隔年他們的歌曲"(They Long to Be) Close to You"
奪下他們的第一個金榜。
木匠兄妹的音樂生涯長達十數年，
一直到1984年妹妹病逝為止，
在世界上的軟搖滾樂迷心中，留下永不磨滅的印象。
